Shaila Rahman

VentureLabs Associate

Shaila Rahman joined Flagship Ventures in 2012 as an Associate within Flagship VentureLabs┬«, after completing the VentureLabs Fellows program.  Shaila works with VentureLabs partners as part of a venture creation team, exploring innovative ideas and opportunities, and developing critical scientific and business components that will lead to the firm’s next breakthrough startups.  Before joining Flagship, she was a consultant to several venture backed biotechnology companies while completing her doctoral training at Harvard. 

She holds a doctorate from Harvard in Virology, where she was a National Research Service Awards Fellow.  Shaila published seven papers in top journals such as Molecular and Cellular Biology, Nature Structural and Molecular Biology, and PNAS and was invited to speak at several international conferences. She studied epigenetic regulation in cancer biology using biophysical approaches, and initiated and led several collaborations to identify therapeutic applications of her findings.  While at Harvard, Shaila was actively involved in student leadership. She was Co-Chair of the Harvard Biotechnology Club, founding leader of the Division of Medical Sciences Pathways Initiative, Co-Founder of the Healthcare Innovations and Commercialization Course and was elected by Harvard faculty to be the graduation day speaker.  She received her B.S. with Honors in Molecular Biology from Colgate, where she was a Lila & Curtis Scholar.
