Ann DeWitt, PhD, Senior AssociateAnn joined Flagship Ventures in June of 2009 as a Senior Associate. Previously, Ann worked with 3M Company (St. Paul, MN) from 2001- 2006 as a research specialist, program/project manager, and supervisor in the Pharmaceutical Division and Optical Systems Division. She led the creation of the DISH knowledge management system for 3M Pharmaceuticals R&D, providing chemistry and biology information and tools to over 100 distinct 3M researchers monthly. In 2003, she received the 3M Circle of Technical Excellence Award. More recently, she was a consultant to the Venture Center at the University of Minnesota and spent a summer as Director of Business Development at Leuko Bioscience. She was also a member of a semi-finalist team, Novophage Therapeutics, in the 2009 MIT $100K Business Plan Competition and in the Harvard Business School Competition; the team won the Boston University Competition.
Ann has a BS from the University of Illinois, Urbana and a PhD in Chemical Engineering with minor in Biology from MIT (2001). Her research focused on quantitatively understanding autocrine versus paracrine signaling and its impact on cell behavior from both mathematical and experimental perspectives and was advised by Doug Lauffenburger. She has an MBA from Harvard Business School (2009). While at Harvard, she was the Lead Organizer for the Biotech Track of the 2008 MIT $100K Business Plan Competition.
