Chantry Networks enhances RF management through strategic partnership with Propagate Networks
Chantry Networks will integrate AutoCell technology from Propagate Networks in their award-winning BeaconWorks™ WLAN suite of products to provide lower cost WLAN access with greater RF management and load balancing capabilities

SAN JOSE - December 1, 2003 - Wi-Fi Planet, Booth #523 - Chantry Networks, the provider of the industry-leading wireless LAN infrastructure solution, announced a strategic partnership with Propagate Networks, provider of AutoCell™, a self-organizing network for 802.11 access and clients. By integrating the technology, Chantry and Propagate are lowering the total cost of ownership (TCO) for wireless LAN networks, while also giving customers greater manageability of RF resources, load balancing of wireless traffic and fully automated fault tolerance for the network.

"Propagate has been approached by a number of enterprise WLAN vendors to provide 'cruise control' capabilities for the RF domain - a self-organizing, fully managed, business-class Wi-Fi solution," said Gary Vacon, CEO, Propagate. "Chantry's leading-edge wireless router, BeaconWorks, is a great match up with AutoCell."

This integration enhances BeaconWorks' industry-leading availability features. Currently, BeaconWorks provides seamless roaming between access points, called BeaconPoints™, with smooth handoffs between BeaconMasters™. Now, with the integration with AutoCell, the wireless network provides even stronger availability features through AutoCell's self-organization capabilities, which repair coverage holes during outages and balances traffic during peak usage times. This joint solution far surpasses any other wireless approach today.

"Our architecture of BeaconWorks allows for a very distributed large-scale WiFi solution," said Peter N. Vicars, president and CEO, Chantry Networks. "In our analysis of an RF resource management approach, Propagate's distributed architecture was very complementary to our BeaconWorks environment. This partnership will be of significant benefit to end users."

The market for enterprise access points is undergoing significant changes as vendors work to lower the cost of ownership while also enhancing performance and core features. Together, Chantry and Propagate will lower the cost of enterprise access points and clients, while also making them more secure, self configuring, and manageable. The two companies expect the combined solution will produce significant savings in capital expenditure for a typical enterprise deployment and customers will see a savings in the cost of installation and on-going maintenance.

Chantry's BeaconWorks will integrate with AutoCell's rich application programming interface (API), to provide customers with key resources for load balancing and RF management. This approach enables end users to have greater flexibility and manageability in their wireless networks.

Chantry's BeaconWorks is an award-winning WLAN solution designed specifically for the needs of large-scale users - from enterprises to hospitals to universities. Its unique routed approach enables better management and segmenting of traffic, and greater coverage over systems required to stay in the wiring closet.

Propagate's AutoCell software solution is a continuously running embedded control system for wireless access points (APs) and clients (laptops, PDAs, and phones). It resides in the firmware of APs and Wi-Fi client adapters and automatically controls the complete RF (radio frequency) environment, eliminating the need for management intervention.
