Trusted Network Technologies, Inc. appoints Flagship's Roger Heinen to Board of Directors
Atlanta, GA - September 8, 2003 - Trusted Network Technologies, Inc. (www.trustednetworktech.com), a pioneer and leader in packet-level authentication and access control software, today announced the appointment of Roger Heinen, managing director at Flagship Ventures, to the company's board of directors.
Heinen is a highly regarded technologist who serves as an advisor and director to a number of successful information technology companies. He will join existing board member and Flagship Ventures Principal, Jim Matheson in this critical leadership position.
"Roger's appointment represents another step in our efforts to expand the board with quality leaders and experienced business technologists," said Stephen Gant, founder, President and CEO of Trusted Network Technologies. "Roger's diverse background will complement our already strong board, and we look forward to his contributions."
"The unfortunate fact is that in spite of staggering investments in security, vulnerabilities and security incidents continue to grow at alarming rates. While existing security technologies offer varying degrees of security for internal networks, once users are "logged in" to the enterprise network, they can usually gain access to almost any network resource if they really want to. That is not a Trusted Network by anyone's definition," explained Heinen. "On private networks the key to information security is strong transparent authentication - way beyond usernames and passwords - coupled with enforcement, ideally at the network layer. This is what is so compelling about TNT's technology: it transparently authenticates users - every session - at the packet-level so that enforcement of who can access what is simple and straightforward. And unauthorized users are unable to even connect to a TNT-protected asset."
Heinen joined Flagship Ventures in 2000 and participates in both venture creation and venture investment activities in the information technology sector. His distinguished industry career includes roles as Senior Vice President, Developer Division of Microsoft. Prior to that, he served as Senior Vice President of the Software Division at Apple Computer and as a Corporate Consulting Engineer at Digital Equipment. His education includes a BSCS from Worcester Polytechnic Institute, SEP from Stanford University, and PhD Hon from Worcester Polytechnic Institute.
Roger currently serves as a director on the boards of Affinnova, Intellivid, Netuitive, Tira Wireless and VIEO, all Flagship Ventures portfolio companies. He is also a Director of ANSYS and Progress Software.
