Chantry Networks BeaconWorks™ First Layer 3 Wireless LAN to Acieve Wi-Fi Alliance Certification
Ensures End Users Secure Interoperability for 802.11a/b/g Wireless Products; Chantry's BeaconWorks also Certified for WPA Standard

Waltham, MA - July 20, 2004 - Chantry Networks, the leading innovator of routed wireless networking technology announced today it has achieved Wi-Fi’ certification from the Wi-Fi Alliance on BeaconWorks for IEEE standards 802.11a, 802.11b, 802.11g and the Wi-Fi Protected Access' (WPA) security solution. This achievement makes BeaconWorks the only certified Layer 3 solution available to end users today; certification assures interoperability between and amongst other certified wireless products.

Wireless solutions that do not go through the Wi-Fi Alliance's rigorous certification process result in higher rates of failure and security threats for end users. Certification provides less risk for customers interested in adopting the latest technologies for sophisticated wireless networks.

"From its initial launch, Chantry's BeaconWorks has led the wireless LAN industry in innovation," said Tom Racca, vice president of marketing, Chantry Networks. "Today's verification of interoperability by the Wi-Fi Alliance is another proof point showing Chantry's position as a forward-thinking, reliable company, and provides customers with peace of mind in deploying their Chantry wireless solutions."

Added Racca, "Chantry is fully committed to making the customer experience as smooth as possible. In addition to demonstrating this through quality, hands-on deployment assistance, Chantry has focused on active participation in developing standards to make it easier for customers to adopt and deploy wireless." (Chantry co-developed the CAPWAP Tunneling Protocol (CTP), a draft of which has been submitted to the IETF for review. This protocol ensures out-of-the-box interoperability between access points, controllers and switches from multiple vendors).

The Wi-Fi Alliance currently performs four independent interoperability certifications including IEEE 802.11a, 802.11b, 802.11g and WPA in addition to a combination of all these technologies. A searchable database of Wi-Fi Alliance certifications can be found at: www.wi-fi.org/certified_products.

"Wi-Fi Certification is a clear indication that a company is committed to quality and customer satisfaction," said Frank Hanzlik, Managing Director of the Wi-Fi Alliance. "This has become an important criteria to effectively compete in retail and enterprise markets."

WPA is the Wi-Fi Alliance's stronger authentication and encryption mechanisms that protect unauthorized network access by verifying network users through a server, and user data repudiation by enforcing a dynamic key using TKIP (Temporal Key Integrity Protocol). This certification builds on Chantry's security strategy by delivering BeaconWorks technology and interoperability with leading security vendors including Check Point Software Technologies and BlueRidge Networks.

Chantry's BeaconWorks WLAN provides the most technically advanced approach for wireless networking and has been adopted by numerous leading businesses in education, hospitality and the public sector. As a result of Chantry's unique solution, customers have been able to turn wireless access into a revenue-generating technology, in addition to providing competitive advantages and employee productivity gains.

About BeaconWorks

BeaconWorks is a router-based fit (thin) access point architecture for more scalable and easily maintained wireless LANs. The solution consists of the BeaconMaster' access controller with BeaconPoint' access points. Embedded in BeaconWorks is Chantry's innovative VNSWorks™ technology that manages multiple virtual wireless networks over one physical wireless network. This technology provides yet one more cost effective approach to meeting the needs of wireless users.
