Beyond Genomics to chair panel of experts at BIO 2003

June 19, 2003, Waltham, MA - Beyond Genomics, Inc. (BG) announced today that it will lead a Drug Discovery and Development session entitled Systems Biology: Integration into Drug Discovery at the Biotechnology Industry Organization (BIO) 2003 Convention in Washington, DC on June 23 (www.bio.org). Systems Biology is a powerful new approach to enhance the drug discovery and development process. By integrating data from genomics, proteomics and metabolomics with clinical information, Systems Biology can quickly and accurately analyze disease pathways and drug response.

"Beyond Genomics is pleased to have the opportunity to assemble and lead such a distinguished panel of experts. The panel will highlight the diverse applications of Systems Biology for drug discovery, and create increased interest in this approach among researchers," said N. Stephen Ober, MD, President of Beyond Genomics. "We have been most fortunate this past year to sign several new pharmaceutical research alliances. Our team believes that the continued improvement in our systems approach will address many of the challenges faced by drug companies today. These challenges include understanding disease pathways, identifying a drug's mechanism of action, predicting toxicity and validating animal models."

The session at BIO will be chaired by Beyond Genomics' Chief Technology Officer, Stephen Naylor, PhD. The speakers, all industry leaders, include: Leroy Hood, PhD, founder and President of the Institute for Systems Biology in Seattle, Washington; David Lester, PhD, New York Site Head, World Wide Clinical Technologies, from Pfizer, Inc.; Michael French, Senior Vice President, from Entelos, Inc. in Foster City, California; and Eric Neumann, PhD, Vice President, Bioinformatics at Beyond Genomics.

The session speakers will discuss the scientific disciplines of Systems Biology, specifics on the utility of in-silico modelling, and share perspectives on how major pharmaceutical companies can integrate Systems Biology into drug discovery and development programs. BG will outline its comprehensive approach, including the value of integrating analytical bench studies using sophisticated bioinformatic approaches. Beyond Genomics will also participate in the Partnering Sessions at BIO's Business Forum 2003 during the course of the convention.

About Beyond Genomics

Beyond Genomics is the first company to apply Systems Biology to drug discovery. BG's Product Focused Research approach leverages its proprietary technology to rapidly analyze clinically relevant samples such as tissue and body fluids. BG integrates data at the gene, protein, and metabolite levels to create new knowledge of disease pathways and drug response. BG performs its disease-specific research and development both independently and in partnership with pharmaceutical companies and leading academic institutions. The Company is committed to the success of its partnerships, and believes that Systems Biology will provide its partners with valuable knowledge for pharmaceutical discovery. BG's current research is focused on Central Nervous System diseases including Alzheimer's Disease, and cardiovascular diseases including atherosclerosis, as well as cancer and metabolic disorders.
