Flagship VentureLabs IP / Legal Internship

The Flagship VentureLabs unit of Flagship Ventures is the first institutional platform for accelerated innovation and parallel entrepreneurship.  Located along the Charles River in Kendall Square, Cambridge, Flagship VentureLabs has the goal of inventing breakthrough technologies and first-in-class new ventures having the capacity to solve global challenges, disrupt large markets, and shape a better future for the world.  Currently, Flagship VentureLabs is seeking a paid legal intern having completed at least one year of law school to assist in the development of robust, field-dominating intellectual property portfolios in its new companies.  The successful intern will have a strong understanding of science and/or bioengineering that relates to biotechnology and sustainable technology (as demonstrated by an undergraduate major in biology, biochemistry or chemistry, and preferably a graduate degree) and the ability to effectively apply that understanding in the patent arena. A basic understanding of patent law concepts is helpful, but experience in patent preparation and prosecution is not necessary. The intern will work closely with the Vice President-Intellectual Property to draft and prosecute patent applications, and prepare patent landscape analysis and/or patent portfolio audit activities. Responsibilities may also include conducting legal research and drafting related to various patent law topics.  The position will also provide exposure to patent enforcement, trademark, trade secret, and/or corporate finance, depending on the background and interest of the candidate.  This paid position conforms to the American Bar Association guidelines for law student employees.  More information about Flagship VentureLabs and Flagship Ventures can be found at www.flagshipventures.com.  Interested students should send by email a resume, transcript and letter of interest to smurphy@flagshipventures.com.
