Kovio, a Silicon Valley company, is developing a new category of semiconductor products using printed electronics and thin film technologies. Printed electronics enables fabrication of semiconductor devices over large areas, on flexible substrates, and at one-tenth the cost of conventional silicon technology. It is ideally suited for manufacturing semiconductor products that require ultra-low cost, low complexity, lightweight, flexibility, and large area. The initial target applications are ultra-low cost RFID for the retail industry, transit tickets, library inventory control, asset management, manufacturing, and logistics.
