Theracrine was founded by the Venture Labs arm of Flagship along with the world leaders in cancer biology - Robert Weinberg (Massachusetts Institute of Technology), Joan Massague (Sloan Kettering Memorial Cancer Center), Doug Hanahan (University of California at San Francisco) and Michael Rosenblatt (Tufts University School of Medicine) - to exploit a fundamental new understanding metastasis. This new biology, which has been appreciated within the last 5 years, has already lead to more than 60 publications by the academic founders in the most prestigious journals (Science, Nature, Cell, New England Journal of Medicine, PNAS). This rapidly growing body of work has produced new insights, revolutionary and proprietary cell and mouse models, and multiple novel therapeutic opportunities poised for development. Theracrine will develop anti-metastatic drugs as a new category of cancer therapeutics.
