TransMedics has developed a portable organ preservation system (POPS) that will revolutionize the >$500M market of transplantation medicine by enabling doctors to keep human organs alive and functioning, outside the body, en route from donor to recipient. POPS will improve transplantation outcomes significantly over the current preservation method (essentially a plastic bag in a box filled with ice) and expand the pool of life-saving organs available for transplant, by allowing doctors to safely transport organs for longer times and over greater distances.
