Flagship co-founded Helicos in mid 2003 with Professors Stephen Quake from CalTech (now at Stanford) and Eric Lander from the Broad Institute at MIT/Harvard. Helicos is revolutionizing genetics and medicine by developing, manufacturing and marketing new instruments capable of ultra-high-throughput, single-molecule sequencing of DNA and RNA. Helicos will commercially test its next generation, ultra-high throughput sequence detection systems during 2005. Stan Lapidus, former Flagship Venture Partner and current Advisor (previously founder of CYTYC and EXACT), joined Helicos as CEO. Flagship Managing Partner Noubar Afeyan is Chairman.
